Sales from Microsoft's Surface line increased 32 percent in its most recent quarter, but the series of tablets and laptops still lag behind market leader Apple's iPad and MacBook series (which has faced its own struggles).
There is also a new Surface Go Signature Type Cover, custom-made for the Surface Go, so that typing can be ergonomic.
Microsoft also said the Surface Go should be good to go 9 hours on a single charge, which the company attributed to the low power sipping qualities of the new 7th gen Intel Gold chip. It runs on a Intel Pentium Gold 4415Y processor and boasts 4GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board flash storage.
Microsoft Surface Go is the device that will be favored by those looking for a cheaper Surface Pro variant though performance is little bit compromised.
But how does the Surface Go measure up to its bigger brother, the Surface Pro?
It isn't the first time Microsoft has sold a cheaper version of the Surface.
With its 3:2 ratio PixelSense Display, the Surface Go supports the Surface Pen.
Microsoft Surface Go price: How much will a budget Surface cost?
The Surface Go Signature Type Cover offers a keyboard and a trackpad, converting the tablet into a mini portable laptop setup.
Microsoft made no mention of what version of Windows 10 this runs but, as it hasn't specifically stated it, it's likely you'll be working with Windows 10 Home instead of the pared-down Windows found on the Surface Laptop.
Accessories have also been announced, with the Surface Pen stylus coming in at £99, and the Surface Mobile Mouse for £35.
Surface Go supports the Windows Hello feature that lets you use the front-facing camera of the tablet to sign in with your mug. The most affordable model comes in at £379 ($399 in the US), and there's also a more expensive version at £510 ($549), which comes with more RAM and storage. It goes on sale on August 2 with Wi-Fi connectivity.
The ports on the Surface Go are a Surface Connect port for charging and docking the device, a USB Type-C 3.1 port for data, video as well as charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a micro SD card slot for memory expansion.
