One of the unidentified persons say that the aim is to have the accessory ready for September release.
Devices supporting Apple products have existed since the September release of the iPhone X; we tested three popular models from Mophie, Belkin, and RavPower in late October (spoiler alert: the RavPower Alpha Series Fast Charger blew away the competition). To complement the iPhone's new capabilities, Apple also unveiled its own AirPower wireless charging mat.
The report suggests that Apple had initially expected the AirPower to hit shelves during June 2018. The company hasn't mentioned it since, even at its Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month.
The AirPower device was created to be able to charge more than one device as well, with space for up to three devices including iPhone, Apple Watches and AirPods simultaneously. These issues have apparently been addressed, enabling the wireless charging mat to go into testing at Apple employees' offices ahead of general availability in the fall.
'Hopefully, Apple learns a lesson to only announce products that are for sure shipping soon or immediately after announcing, ' Ben Bajarin, analyst at Creative Strategies, told Bloomberg. Eventually, the company hopes to remove all ports and buttons on the iPhone, according to people familiar with the company's work. With the AirPower mat, Apple users will be able to charge the iPhone, Apple Watch and the AirPods - all at the same time. Let us know if and where you use a wireless charger. The company reportedly discussed the possibility of doing this with the iPhone X, but decided that the charging speeds using wires are still much better than what's possible with wireless charging.
Most recently, a separate report from Digitimes indicated that Apple does intend to drop Lightning connectivity with next year's iPhones, but that it'll be replaced with USB-C. The wireless synchronisation of AirPods and the Watch with Apple's other devices are compelling features. A new device called the AirPower mat was supposed to come in 2018.
Apple is struggling with technical hurdles, including overheating, according to a Bloomberg report. It seems that Apple has been experiencing unexpected issues with the hardware which has delayed the launch. When the wireless Apple Pencil came out in 2015, it was hard to find in retail stores for several weeks.
Up till now, Apple has been unable to launch the AirPower.
Launching AirPower in September would mark a year since it was announced.
