The last time the first lady was seen in public was in the early morning hours of May 10, when she joined the president at Joint Base Andrews to greet the three Americans released from North Korea.
However, she did say that there was nothing suspicious about the first lady's absence, explaining Melania was simply recovering following her stay in hospital. Cue the conspiracy theories about the "real" reasons for Melania's whereabouts.
Her absence has prompted theories including the story the first lady has moved back to NY, that she is writing a book about her husband, or, more bizarrely, that she is living with Barack and Michelle Obama. Did she finally leave her husband, Donald Trump? What if she's hanging out with the Obamas after bonding with them at Barbara Bush's funeral?
"It's expected that Trump people are hiding something", a senior administration official told Politico.
Many are anxious about first lady Melania Trump, who reportedly hasn't been seen in public since before her emergency kidney operation earlier this month. Soon, users on Twitter were speculating that she may have undergone a more complicated cosmetic surgery under the guise of an emergency. "We've been going over initiatives and other long-term planning for events such as the congressional picnic and 4th of July".
"Sadly, we deal with conspiracy theories all the time, so this is nothing new, just more silly nonsense", Stephanie Grisham told CNN. She revealed: "I wouldn't characterise this as a long absence". She spent six days at Walter Reed Military Hospital before it was announced that she would be heading home to the White House.
The president himself is also not helping the situation either, making confusing comments when asked about his wife."Right there", he reportedly said while he pointed at an empty East Wing window. "Right there", he said. He said, "She's doing great".
