The Nittany Lions will head to Chicago to take on DePaul on Thursday, Nov. 15 as part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games, which will take place on four consecutive days starting on Nov. 13. Game times will be announced later. Television coverage of the Gavitt Tipoff Games will be provided by either FS1 or BTN.
The Big East and Big Ten Conferences have announced the pairings for this seasons Gavitt Games mens basketball matchups.
Among the 16 participating schools, six played in the 2018 NCAA Tournament (Creighton, Michigan, Ohio State, Seton Hall, Villanova and Xavier) and three played in the NIT (eventual champion Penn State, Marquette and Nebraska). Since its debut in 2015-16, there have been three ties in as many years.
The teams will have significantly different looks after they met in the NCAA Tournament title game.
Villanova and MI, the schools that battled for the national championship in San Antonio, Texas, will meet again on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Villanova. The Nov. 14 matchups include Marquette at IN and Seton Hall at Nebraska as well as the Michigan-Villanova game.
Watching Villanova pull off the epic run they did during last year's tournament by winning each game by double-digits, including the championship game against MI.
Ohio State will play at Creighton and Penn State will face DePaul in Chicago on November 15, while the final game will see St. John's play at Rutgers on November 16.
The 2018 game will be the first home contest for Nebraska in the series.
The series of games is in honor of the late Dave Gavitt, who founded of the Big East Conference and was a pioneer in the basketball world. Gavitt had a profound and lasting influence on the sport of basketball on the collegiate, professional and Olympic levels and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
