Jharkhand was chosen as Best Performing State, followed by Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh. "You have to wait to get the details of rankings of all cities, including the ones that did badly", an official said.
"The Swachh Sarvekshan 2018 assessed 4,203 urban local bodies, impacting around 40 crore citizens across the length and breadth of the country, through 2,700 assessors".
Indore was the cleanest city in 2017 as well, but that survey was conducted only for around 430 cities. While there were widespread hopes that the city would improve its 3rd rank from previous year and bag the top spot, the recently revealed data has proved otherwise.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday congratulated and praised the residents of Bhopal and Indore for once against making both the cities cleanest among others. In the cities with less than one lakh population, Siddipet was selected as the cleanest city, while Peerzadiguda was awarded as the best city in innovation and best practices.
Compared with the 2017 survey of 434 cities, the scope of this year's survey was increased manifold, said the minister, adding that feedback from 37.66 lakh citizen was collected and 53.58 lakh Swachhata Apps downloaded. There's no doubt in the fact that our city handsome Chandigarh is also one of the cleanest city in the country as per 2018 survey by bagging the 3rd spot.

According to the Swachchh Survekshan 2018, Vijayawada is the cleanest among big cities having more than 10 lakh population, while Mysuru has emerged as the cleanest among cities with population of three lakh to 10 lakh. Mayor Alok Sharma, Municipal Commissioner Priyanka Das and corporators celebrated the feat as the city has been ranked second only to Indore in the cleanliness survey of 2018 which was conducted by the Union Government. Chandigarh was ranked as the third most clean city.
New Delhi Municipal Council is country's cleanest small city having a population between one lakh to three lakh.
