Secretary Ruet-e-Hilal committee research council has said that the moon can be sighted across the country.
The meeting was held at the main office of the Meteorological Department where evidence of moon sighting was collected.
The Central Moon Sighting Committees in India Pakistan and Bangladesh have issued appeals to Muslims in their respective countries to sight the crescent, Ramadan Moon or Ramzan Chand, Wednesday May 16, 2018 corresponding to 29th Shaban 1439. Official decision by Central Moon Sighting Committee Pakistan, Religious Affairs Ministry Bangaldesh and Central Moon Sighting Committee New Delhi is expected soon after Salate Maghrib Wednesday evening. Therefore, the month of Ramzan will begin there on Thursday, May 17.
This year, the holy month has started across Pakistan including Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) along with Saudi Arabia, UAE and other Gulf countries on the same day.
In a statement, President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain congratulated Muslims on the advent of Ramadan ul Mubarak.
The sighting of the moon marks the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan during which Muslims all around the world will be keeping fasts from crack of dawn to dusk.
It was during Ramazan that the holy Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) started receiving revelations of the holy Quran. It is followed by the Eid al-Fitr festival. Fasting during the entire month is one of the five tenets of Islam. Faithful will be offering long prayers during this month and will be donating huge amounts to seek Jannah in Aakhirah.
