Loew left out midfielder Goetze, who scored the winning goal in the final against Argentina 4 years ago but has had a lackluster season.
The 32-year-old Neuer suffered a broken bone in his foot and only returned to training days ago but Germany coach Joachim Loew chose to take 4 keepers to the training camp in the Italian Alps from May 23-June 5. The former Bayern Munich player and Borussia Dortmund legend, who scored the winning goal against Argentina at the final in Brazil has been out of form, and national team coach, Joachim Low, has made a decision to look elsewhere. Sandro Wagner, though, misses out, despite an impressive season at Bayern Munich and the 30-year-old has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in 34 appearances for the Bavarian giants thus far this term, and has also netted five goals for Germany in just eight caps.
After the Federation Internationale de Football Association deadline, a player can only be replaced if he seriously injures himself 24 hours before the team's first World Cup match. He's shown that with the national team before.
Germany play their last warm-up games against Austria a day later and take on Saudi Arabia in Leverkusen on June 8. "We want to observe him ourselves to form an impression and will be able to do that at the training camp", Loew said of the side's preparations in South Tyrol, Italy, from May 23.
Low's entire backroom staff have also agreed new deals, as has national team managing director Oliver Bierhoff. "Some (of the reaction) seems to be over the top to me".
"Being here in this role is important, and this was the right moment in my career".
