Jos Buttler will be given a surprise return to the England Test team on Tuesday when Ed Smith, their new head selector, announces his squad for the first Test against Pakistan. He has not played a first-class match since September.
There was also a first Test call up for Somerset spinner Dom Bess after his county teammate Jack Leach was ruled out of the two-match series due to a thumb injury.
Jonny Bairstow is however set to keep the gloves for England's opening game of the summer.

The batting of the lower order in the Ashes series and New Zealand was seen as a glaring weakness of the side and they were found to be extremely susceptible to short-pitched hostile bowling.

Buttler has yet to hit any great heights in Test cricket but former England batsman Smith said: "We feel it's the right thing, at the right time with the right player". 'He has impressed everyone with his performances for Somerset and when he has been given opportunities with England representative teams. The selection panel feels that it is the ideal moment to reintroduce Jos to Test cricket where he has already enjoyed some success.
