The Congress and JD (S) have six legislators more than the 111 required to cross the halfway mark. This is the victory of every Kannadiga who voted to uproot the corrupt & divisive politics of Congress.
In a floor test, the Speaker of the House would play a crucial role. Its leader Rahul Gandhi, scion of India's Nehru-Gandhi dynasty, has still not won a state election since he took over from his mother Sonia Gandhi this year.
JDS Leader Kumaraswamy addresses the media.
Congress leaders today staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue next to the Vidhana Soudha, the state secretariat, against the swearing in of B S Yeddyurappa as chief minister. Mayawati, sources said, subsequently spoke to Sonia and suggested that Congress extend support to JD (S) to which she agreed. Nor did his voice matter in political strategy or backroom maneuvering at national level but as luck would have it, the so-called secularists joined hands with outside support of the Congress to prevent BJP from taking power.
Siddaramaiah himself lost by a huge margin of 36,042 votes in his traditional constituency of Chamundeshwari in Mysuru to JD (S') GT Deve Gowda. "If the BJP indulges in horse trading I will not sit quiet".
Kumaraswamy became Chief Minister in February 2006 with the support of the BJP and headed the first coalition government in the state for 20 months till October 2007 when the alliance collapsed, leading to President's rule in the state. However, everything goes in the political arena, especially under the guise of something called a post-poll alliance where two parties who have been going hammer and tongs at each other announce nearly immediately after the results are out that they plan to get together to trip up the front-runner who is marginally short of the number of seats to form the government.
He said that he has not come before the court in favour or against any party but has been hurt over the unconstitutional decision taken by the Governor. In 2013, the BJP had won 12 of the 28 seats.
Since the Congress and JD (S) did not have a pre-poll alliance, it remains to be seen if the Governor invites Kumaraswamy to form the government.
A hardboiled RSS Swayamsevak, 75-year-old Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yeddyurappa, joined the Hindu right organisation when he was barely 15, and cut his political teeth in the Jana Sangh, the BJP's forerunner, in his hometown Shikaripura in Shivamogga district.
"The scope of judicial review would be on the same or similar grounds on which the executive action of the State is challengeable under constitutional or administrative law principles evolved by this Court, namely, non-compliance with the requirements of natural justice, irrational or arbitrary, perverse, irrelevant to the goal or extraneous grounds weighed with the President, misdirection in law or mala fide or colourable exercise of power, on all or some of the principles". Even though they have 104 seats, they 8 seat sort of the magic number to form the government.
"The regional parties are clear", an opposition leader said. For Modi, Karnataka is important for two reasons. I have informed the same to the Chief Secretary.
Kumaraswamy said that "BJP's Ashwamedha Yatra started in north has been stopped in Karnataka".
