The veteran leader, who served as the VHP worldwide working president since December 2011, announced his decision in a press conference after his nominee to the post of global president of the VHP was defeated in voting, which were the VHP's first elections in over five decades.
A day after quitting the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in wake of his nominee losing an organisational poll, firebrand leader Pravin Togadia today launched a vicious attack against the Modi government at the Centre. I will continue to work for the welfare of Hindus.
"Hindus all over can clearly see through the dirty political designs in cracking the grand VHP", said Mr Togadia, who has off-late been critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership. Former president of the VHP Raghav Reddy lost against BJP-RSS-backed Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje, ex-Himachal Pradesh governor, who is also a former MP high court judge. He added that though associated with the VHP "for the past 32 years", he was "no longer with the organisation".
Claiming that scores of Hindus were killed in police firing during the post-Godhra riots, he said he could not understand how it could happen when "Narendrabhai" (Narendra Modi) was the chief minister. Togadia, however, alleged irregularities in the exercise. I can say that the entire Hindu community is committed to temple building.
Recently, Togadia after a miraculous escape in a road accident near Surat, voiced suspicion that it was an attempt to kill him.
State VHP leaders, however, refrained form expressing their stand on Togadia's proposed fast. Hailing from Gujarat Togadia is a surgeon who is known for his provocative and incendiary speeches.
