The third-seed Philadelphia 76ers rolled all over the seventh-seed Miami Heat on Saturday night in Game 1 of their first round playoff series, winning in a convincing 130-103 fashion. Though the team announced Embiid has cleared concussion protocol prior to Game 2, the second-year superstar was still prevented from making his long-awaited playoff debut.
After Monday's game, Embiid took to Instagram to vent his frustrations, writing, "F--ing sick and exhausted of being babied".
After the loss, 76ers coach Brett Brown seemed understanding of Embiid's emotions.
Internally, there is optimism that Embiid will return when the series is in Miami, though it's unclear if that will be for Game 3 on Thursday, according to sources. He wants to play in front of the fans. He averages 22.9 points, 3.2 assists, 11.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks in 63 games for the Sixers this season and will be crucial in their attempts to win a first National Basketball Association championship since 1983.
"I think in the second-half we matched their defensive intensity", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.
During the regular season, in which the Sixers improved to 52 wins, NBC Sports saw a 45-percent uptick in average viewership from last season and had its highest viewership since the 2011-12 season - the last time the Sixers made the playoffs.
"I hate this feeling", the 21-year-old Australian told reporters in the 76ers' locker room after the 17-game win streak was snapped. How limited, and what happens if Spoelstra makes it really limited bears watching - not just for this series, but also as a prelude to a potential move away from Whiteside this summer (if Miami can find a taker for him).
