Ian Somerhalder has been cast in Netflix's V-Wars. Swann enters what will become the Vampire War when a disease begins to infect his best friend, Michael Fayne. The world is then thrown into a vampire war as the disease spreads with Swann racing against time to understand what is happening while Fayne becomes a vampire leader.
There's no word on when V-Wars will premiere on Netflix, but we'll keep you updated as more news breaks on the show! At least this time Somerhalder is not playing a vampire. The latest offering from the streaming service will be based on IDW's comic book series of the same name written by best-selling author Jonathan Maberry. Soon, more and more people are transformed, creating a divide in society: humans versus vampires. High Park's Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden will executive produce alongside IDW Entertainment president David Ozer, IDW CEO Ted Adams and Marada Pictures' Games Gibb. Somerhalder is attached to star and also direct the drama, which was developed as straight-to-series in 2014 as the initial project under IDW Entertainment and then-eOne TV's first-look co-production deal.
The vampires of V-Wars are a lot different from the kind in Vampire Diaries.

Brad Turner (Human Cargo, 24, Stargate and Stargate Atlantis) will direct the pilot episode and executive produce. The genre drama joins a roster of Marvel fare including the recently renewed Jessica Jones and gives the streamer a series vampire drama as The CW is prepping the final season of Vampire Diaries spinoff The Originals, while working on yet another offshoot from the franchise.
