South-south APC rejects Oshiomhole as consensus candidate - THE All Progressives Congress (APC), in the south-south states have rejected the purported endorsement of former Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, by the chairmen of the South South states as chairmanship candidate in the coming national convention.
He said: "What we were told at the meeting was that the President had a meeting with some governors and they asked to know who he wanted to support and I think that he told them his preference".
" That's the objective of the meeting administration that is the President's position", the Presidency source said.
According to him, the meeting also addressed the issue of the forthcoming convention and congresses in order to make it hitch-free.
However, it still remain sketchy if the current APC chairman, Chief Johnn Odigie-Oyegun, will be recontesting for the number one position in the party, but the Presidency loyalty is towards Oshiomhole.
However, four out of the six state chairmen of the party in the zone have distanced themselves from the endorsement of Oshiomhole. Odigie-Oyegun is from the same geo-political zone.
¨You are all aware of the happenings in the party and luckily one of the decisions taken by NEC was that the positions of the party should be retained in the various jurisdictions that are occupying those positions as at now. We also took into consideration the need to put our best forward. That decision was unanimous, which means every member of the state caucus not just participated but accepted that this must be the position of Edo State.
Tinubu also commended the state government for the massive infrastructural development going on in Lagos.
"People like us have been around since the AD days to now that we are APC, so it is time to move on".
Others were Rochas Okorocha of Imo, Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano, Kashim Shettima of Borno, Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger, Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa, Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo, Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun, Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa.
Speaking to journalists, the South South state chairmen said they were ambushed with Oshiomhole's adoption agenda at the meeting.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the Forum of South-South APC Stakeholders held a meeting in Benin on Monday where some states in the region endorsed the candidacy of Oshiomhole while others declined.
