So it's a pretty safe bet that we'll see Season 9 back in mid-October, possibly late October like this season. As it turns out, the bullets Eugene made for The Saviors were booby-trapped, and when The Saviors surrounded Rick's group and fired their weapons, every gun backfired, injuring and in some cases killing the ones pulling the trigger. Not too long after that, Rick killed Negan ... or did he? It looked as if Rick was going to lose, but he caught Negan off-guard by saying that neither of them had to die, just like Carl wanted, but then he slashed Negan's throat.
The all-out war with Negan is finally over. "He wants to show people that things can change", he explained, "Everything is about people, everything in this life that's worth a damn". This is a good thing for Morgan, as his story in "The Walking Dead" doesn't seem to be over just yet, despite the move. Negan has been the villain for two full seasons now, which have also been two of the most tiresome the show has ever delivered. "I hope that they are intrigued with these new characters, that they want to know more about them and they really like the way that they see the OGs interact with Morgan, who is an OG himself, and the new characters". The potential in breaking away from the confines of the comics was a fearless move for AMC, but obviously one that it couldn't stick to, especially when you look at just how closely Negan's fate matches the comics. When are we going to get answers about that helicopter, or the ultra mod living space she was in?
Maggie was seen talking to Jesus in her office at the Hilltop about what's next.
With old faces, new faces, and a time jump, Fear the Walking Dead feels like it's been given a second life. As such, the fact that both him and Lincoln have played coy on the topic leads us to believe that perhaps there's something in the works. Also, we learned that Jadis' real name is Ann ... so there is that. But Rick and Michonne, Rick was wrong to do what he did. The show removed the moment where Negan admits he never even considered cooperation, but it does keep the result of Negan's distraction: Rick suddenly slashes his throat, wounding him enough to declare victory. Rick was on the ground; Negan was about to brain him with Lucille and Rick asked for a 10-second reprieve "for Carl". The Walking Dead season 8 finale might have wrapped up all the storylines it had with a tidy, twee little bow, but that doesn't stop it from feeling disappointing anticlimactic.
The Walking Dead concluded its eighth season tonight and Fear the Walking Dead returned for its fourth season; the sister series will continue to air Sunday nights on AMC. We were treated to not one but three montages of Rick and a young Carl walking hand in hand, hearkening back to Carl's farewell letter to his dad. Rick pursues him and eventually confronts Negan underneath a tree with two pieces of stained glass swinging from its branches - the same tree The Walking Dead has been showing glimpses of all season. "We're going to bide our time, wait for our moment and then we're going to show him", Maggie tells Jesus and Daryl.
