Kidambi Srikanth joined the elite list on Thursday as he became World No. 1 in men's singles category after Badminton World Federation (BWF) updated its weekly rankings.
Kidambi secured World No 2 spot in November previous year after winning four Super Series title including Indonesia, Australia, Denmark and France, making him only the fourth in the world to achieve the same. The Commonwealth Games is on, and this year also holds the Asian Games.
Srikanth, who won four Super Series titles last year - Indonesia Open, Australian Open, Denmark Open and French Open - missed an opportunity to scale to the top in December last year because of injury. He had become the fourth player in the world to achieve this feat. He is also hot favourite to win the gold medal in Men's Singles event.
