"I think it's a handsome way to punctuate the end of this season".
Warning: This Is Us season two finale spoilers.
Footage from a 40th wedding anniversary celebration for Rebecca and Jack - an event that turned out to be a dream Kate kept having - was threaded throughout the episode, a tease of how lovely things might have been in some parallel, Lost-ian flash sideways world.
This Is Us has replaced "How did Jack die?" with "Who is "her"?" for its new enormous mystery. "We have some big plans in how we play with time, but Mandy has such a classic face and look that strangely it allows for aging in a really interesting way because she would always remain classically lovely in a way that's not typical or normal". "I just saw him (testing it) and thought, something's coming, something's coming", she said. "It's going to be a well-told season next year", he said. Cue the tears! While we're happy Toby and Kate finally got married, we can't help but be a little heartbroken that her father wasn't there to see it. Kate, too, understood the depth to her responses to Rebecca's words and actions. If something bad had happened to her, there's no way he'd be composed enough to go sit at Tess' desk at work.
The series has also taken what easily could have been a exhausted subplot, involving Randall's foster child Deja (Lyric Ross), and in the last few episodes broadened that into something more resonant than clichéd, while presenting Randall with a parenting challenge that, as is so often true on the show, ties into his past while simultaneously hinting at his future. This is a situation where Kate may have to take the lead on that front, ' Berger said. However, during Kevin and Randall's differing takes on wedding toasts, everyone cried for the same reason. Zoey explains to Deja how her own mother left her when she was 8 years old, and she lived with Beth and her family. Beth was probably at home making pot brownies or doing her hair and being awesome.
Kevin Pearson [Justin Hartley] was also shown dating Beth's cousin Zoe and they were both flying to Vietnam.
Ever since we first got hints about Jack's wartime experience and learned that his brother, Nicky, died during the war, it makes sense that season three would further dig into Jack's time overseas and uncover what exactly went down with Nicky.
Season 2 of This Is Us was full of highs and lows. But I also wonder where Annie is and if the youngest daughter would be going to see whoever it is that Randall and Beth are seeing.
Series creator Dan Fogelman has played with time on the show from the get-go, but the foreshadowing regarding the future has nearly felt like a "Lost"-like wrinkle, bringing additional dimension to the characters and what's happening in the present". Are you surprised that Kate is able to "let go" of Jack and make room for Toby? Whatever it is, it seems pretty safe to bet that Season 3 will keep poking at this question and building suspense-but it's worth asking whether This Is Us really needs to indulge in another prolonged game of "what really happened to that beloved character?"
Older Kate tells the urn, "You remember when the carnival would come to town every summer with those old roller coasters?"
"[Beth and Randall] always knew going into the foster parent experience that it would not necessarily be the easiest road, and it would be a road that had good times and had bad times". Want more news? Like our This Is Us Facebook page.
