Four of the injured personnel are said to be in critical condition.
Sukma, considered one of the worst insurgency-hit regions of the state, has witnessed several dreaded attacks on security forces in the past, particularly in summer season during which rebels carry out an annual tactical counter offensive campaign (TCOC). He bowed to each and every security personnel who attained martyrdom while serving the nation. "Seeing the response of 208 CoBRA naxals initially fled away", said CRPF spokesperson Moses Dinakaran.
Injured constables-Madan Kumar and Rajesh Kumar-had been airlifted to Jagdalpur for treatment, Special Director General (Naxal Operation) DM Awasthi told reporters at Raipur. "Extra force has reached the spot, there is no firing at present".
Earlier previous year in March, 12 CRPF personnel of a road opening party were ambushed in Sukma.
The attack comes days after security forces killed 10 Maoists in an encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur District bordering Telangana. "To those who have been injured, I wish a speedy recovery".
The jawans of the paramilitary force, including Lenka, were reportedly attacked when they were on their way from Kistaram to Palodi, conducting an area-domination operation. "I spoke to DG CRPF regarding the Sukma incident and asked him to leave for Chhattisgarh".
The Congress blamed the Centre's "aimless, irresolute and inconsistent policies" for the attack.
Reports are coming that the blast occurred when a team of CRPF's 212th battalion was patrolling in a forest in Kistaram area of Sukma, located around 500 km from Raipur.
"The troops who came under attack were traveling in the MPV and going towards a newly-opened post in Palodi".
It also comes six months after 25 CRPF jawans were slaughtered + in one of the deadliest attacks by Maoist rebels, or Naxalites.
