New York Daily News confirmed the rapper's death in an interview with Mack affiliate/producer Alvin Toney, reporting that the rapper died of heart failure on Monday at a hospital in Walterboro, S.C. He was a good friend of mine, ' said Toney, who produced Mack's albums Project: Funk Da World and Get Down Remix. "He was prepared to do that. He wasn't scared. He was ready".
Mack is survived by his wife and two adult children, Toney tells the Daily News.
Impressed with his contribution, Combs offered him a recording contract and released Mack's smooth, laid-back debut album, Project: Funk da World, in 1994. The song became a hit but it was the remix which featured The Notorious B.I.G. that became even more popular. The song received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance at the Grammy Awards in 1995, but it lost out to Queen Latifah's "U.N.I.T.Y". He made several attempts to release music in the following years; a mixtape called "Operation Why2K?" emerged in 2012 and an album called "The Mack World Sessions" in 2017. Craig was already committed to his new life in the SC church by then. Still, Mack is widely credited with helping Diddy get Bad Boy off the ground at its start.
Rap icons and music lovers celebrated Mack for his contribution to the art form.
