Hyundai has revealed that its next-generation fuel cell electric vehicle will be called the Nexo and it will spearhead the Korean auto maker's efforts to introduce 18 eco-friendly cars to its lineup by 2025.
On Monday, the South Korean automaker, Hyundai, introduced its latest auto model at CES 2018 in Las Vegas.
Dubbed as NEXO, this vehicle picks up where the Tucson FCEV left off. Hyundai, Toyota and many other manufacturers are part of the Global Hydrogen Council, which means they have a greater chance of turning the ear of energy companies and governments around the world.
Hyundai also showed a new blind-spot-monitoring system that displays a view of the car's perimeter on the center cluster, and a remote parking feature that also retrieves the vehicle.
Hyundai claimed its Nexo boasts higher performance than other hydrogen vehicles now available on the market, including Toyota's Mirai, and can run 600 km with a single charge, which takes just five minutes.
Lane Following Assist is an new to Hyundai and introduced with the Nexo.
The Vice President of Hyundai, Ki-Sang Lee believes that Nexo would go on to become a vehicle of enormous utility in the future. Nexo features a voice command system, artificial intelligence, and can be switched into an autonomous auto.
The SUV is built on a dedicated fuel cell platform rather than a modified version of existing architecture. Thus making the vehicle design lighter while giving the hydrogen fuel tank a more strategic layout. However, Hyundai has said that its design allows for more passenger space, improved aerodynamics, acceleration, and efficiency. It would be interesting to see the response of the competitors to this distinguished move by Hyundai. At full fuel Nexo Fuel Cell will be able to cover a distance of 595 km. Hyundai plans to release no fewer than 18 clean vehicles by 2025. Aside from California, the vehicle will most likely be available in South Korea, Australia, and a number of European countries.
