During an interview with U.S. publication IGN, the Australian superstar confirmed he has just finished filming The Avengers 4: Infinity War, marking the end of Hemsworth's original deal with Marvel, along with co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner.
"I've just, literally two days ago, finished Avengers 4 and that's my contract - my preexisting contract is done now, so it's kind of like, 'wow, that's it, '" Hemsworth told IGN.
Reflecting on his journey in the franchise, he said, "Two or three films ago I was like, 'okay, a couple more.' I was enjoying it but I was like". I felt a little restricted.
Well, I am on Hemsworth's side, I don't think there would be many fans against this idea.
The shape of the MCU should be nearly unrecognisable after Avengers 4, with the X-Men and The Fantastic Four set to debut in some way - as well as Kevin Feige's assertion that everything (including the format) will be different, but there will undoubtedly still be some continuity. "Now that you've informed me that it's a possibility, I'm going to get on the one phone and try to coax him over or convince him and see if he has one more in him", Hemsworth said.
"Avengers 4" will be the last outing for Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. His starring vehicles like Blackhat, In the Heart of the Sea and The Huntsman: Winter's War have performed poorly at the box office, and even his praised comedy turns in Vacation and Ghostbusters couldn't stop those films from disappointing. He will also reprise the character of Thor in upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.
The Avengers sequel sees Earth's Mightiest Heroes teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Brolin's Thanos and his Black Order. That film is due in the spring courtesy of Joe and Anthony Russo, who are also directing the follow up.
Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4th, while Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3rd, 2019.
