The kidnappers of Damishi Sango, chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau state, have demanded a ransom of N100 million for his release.
Former state organizing secretary, Mr. Mike Dachom, who confirmed the kidnapping said he has also heard about their abduction.
The other persons that were kidnapped are one of the PDP elders in Plateau State, Chief Emmanuel Mangni; Sango's son, his driver, and his police orderly. "His kidnappers want N100 million", Jonathan Mapis, a family member, told newsmen on Thursday in Jos.
-They were reportedly travelling in preparation for the party's national convention scheduled to hold on Saturday.
Mapis quoted Sango as telling family members that the five of them were safe.
PDP Plateau state Chairman, Hon. None of them have been released. He said: "The abductors have contacted the family". I woke up this morning with a lot of missed calls and when I called his personal assistant, he broke the news that Chairman was kidnapped on his way to Abuja.
"Those holding him called this afternoon".
When contacted, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, Matthias Tyopev, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said efforts were on to rescue the captives.
In a telephone interview yesterday, Muktar said "the Inspector General of Police's (IG's) Anti-Kidnapping Team and the Special Tactical Squad (STS) have swung into action to recue the victims when we received a distress call at about 6p.m on Wednesday about the incident, which occurred along Kagarko-Jere road". "The man has been kidnapped and efforts are on to secure his freedom", he said.
